Judy Garland is back on the scene with her first, and only, live album that was recorded fifty years ago on August 5, 1958 at the Cocoanut Grove, in Los Angeles California. One of my top five ballads of all time, "Somewhere over the Rainbow," is contained on this 13-tract release. Albeit, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's 1993 version tops the list, Judy is solidly and solely in second position with her heartfelt timeless rendition.
Backed by the swinging Cocoanut Groves Orchestra and conducted by Freddy Martin, this release represents one of the last chances to hear Judy Garlands entire cabaret act live. From the time Judy makes her entrance, to the post performance announcements, its all there.....
